Bicarbonate of soda, also known as baking soda, can be used for baking or home cleaning. When used in baking it needs to be paired with an acidic liquid or moisture rich ingredient in order to activate it such as milk or yoghurt. This is because the bicarbonate of soda is an alkali and is used to help dense bread and cakes rise such as soda bread or fruit cake.
To use as a home cleaning product mix with a small amount of water. This will be strong enough to clean ovens, floors and surfaces in kitchens and bathrooms. It can also be used to remove stains from clothes and is popularly used to help whiten teeth.
